City-Wide Way Finding Project (Update)
On May 11th, Chairman Jerry Lombardo and the members of the Upper Main Street Alliance unveiled the new "Welcome" signs for the city. The Business Improvement District on Main Street partnered with the City of Hackensack, the County of Bergen, Hackensack University Medical Center and Fairleigh Dickinson University to design and construct city-wide way finding. The new signs will direct city visitors to governmental, educational and hospital facilities and throughout the downtown business district. More than 120 signs are scheduled to be installed.

Visual Improvements
You will notice that all of the decorative planters have flowers and vines which are being watered regularly by our maintenance crew. Our patriotic banners have also been placed throughout the district. 

5th Annual Street Festival
We have begun planning our 5th Annual Street Festival which is scheduled for October 2, 2010. We will have more information over the next several weeks and look forward to working again with our members, vendors and sponsors to make this year’s festival better than ever. We are very excited about a possible entertainment headliner who we know you would love! Keep your fingers crossed. We will be contacting your shortly. 

Street-Works Strategic Visioning Plan
The Upper Main Alliance continues to work with Street-Works and City officials in developing a long-term growth plan for the district and the city’s downtown. We are encouraged by Street-Work’s recently completed “strategic analysis” and are taking the next steps to fully understand what needs to happen for Main Street to reach its fullest potential. Over the next several weeks, we will be reaching out to our members and public to share what we’ve learned and seek comment on future efforts to revitalize the business district. We are calling this initiative “The Main Idea”. Look for scheduled meetings on this issue. We need your input.

Summer Concerts
The City of Hackensack has scheduled some great free Summer Concerts for the Courthouse Green on Main Street. The concerts are held on Tuesday Nights at 7:30. The dates are: 
July 13: The Duprees
July 20: Kenny Vance and The Planotones
July 27: Orlando Marin and his Latin Orchestra
August 10: Smooth and The Motown Revue

Note: Regrettably, we had to cancel our Meet & Greet this year due to scheduling conflicts. We fully expect to reschedule this event or hold it next year.
